Laumė is a NZ artist living in London, UK. Her first solo single Let Me Down was released in 2016 on Ryan Hemsworth’s label Secret Songs (CAN, US) under the moniker MADEIRA where it received over 80k plays in the first month. She then released her debut EP Bad Humors under the same name through Carpark Records (US) in 2016. Her US release tour saw her playing with acts such as Tanukichan, Kid trails, and Corbu. She has since collaborated with Boycrush (NZ), Brett (US), Swimgood (CAN) and Zimmer (France). Her work has featured in film and television, including Bad Moms (2016), Riverdale, Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce, Bones and more. She has also received rave reviews and features in publications and broadcast channels such as Pitchfork, Billboard, Vice, Elle, Spin, Fader, Exclaim!, The Guardian, BBC and more.

Some may know her from her Yumi Zouma years (when signed with Cascine, US) as co-founder, frontwoman, and composer. Together they toured the world, play festival circuits and shared bills with artists such as LORDE, Tei Shi, BØRNS, Nick Murphy (Chet Faker), and TOPS. In her early career, Laume cut her teeth in the indie-folk scene performing heartfelt songs as a regular in the Lyttelton music scene and played alongside the likes of Marlon Williams, Hannah ‘Aldous’ Harding, Fur Patrol, Flip Grater, French for Rabbit’s Brooke Singer and many more.

Laumė’s debut album Waterbirth was released in Jan 2020 on Carpark records under her new, more intimate guise. The record is as dreamy (if not more) than Bad Humors, with some dark, mysterious undertones. Having spent time looking into her and her ancestors’ pasts, and in taking a deep look into the stranger corners of her psyche, Laumė’s songs explore birth, death, complexities of human nature, the randomness of fate, and what it means to exist. Perhaps a hunt for universal truths or a way to make sense of a life that almost never was. 

When not making music Laumė is a writer, artist, designer and fabricator (for stop-motion animation films). In Jan 2019 she self-published her first book of poetry lilac complete with her own hand-drawn illustrations. lilac is available through her website.
